Men's Soccer Defeats Marymount In Season Opener

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team began their 2017 season today with a close win as the Mounties edged out visiting Marymount University by a final score of 1-0.

Mount Aloysius controlled possession early on and had a number of good opportunities at goal, including a first-half strike from Diron Duah that hit the crossbar. In the second half of play, the Mounties Erik Johansson got himself free on a run to the back past and hit a strong header to goal. However, the Marymount keeper made a point-blank save to keep the game scoreless.

The match remained scoreless until the 85th minute when Joshua Devlin scored on a free kick from 40 yards out on the right flank. The goal would hand the Mounties the victory after a stellar defensive showing led by goalkeeper James Eyre, who stopped seven shots for the home side.

Mount Aloysius held a 18-10 edge in shots and an 11-7 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

The Mounties are set to return to the field of play tomorrow when they take on Goucher College at 1 p.m. on the road.
