Mountie Soccer Edges Goucher in Overtime Thriller

Box Score
Baltimore, MD - The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team recorded their second win in as many days with a 2-1 overtime victory over host Goucher College on Sunday afternoon.

The Mounties fell behind 1-0 at halftime on a Goucher free kick, but responded with a number of chances to begin the second half before equalizing on a Pete Smerecky header courtesy of a Joshua Devlin free kick. Minutes later, the Mounties were called for a foul in the box. Mountie keeper James Eyre stepped up and registered a huge penalty kick save to keep the game tied at 1-1.

Mount Aloysius then had a golden opportunity to take the lead as the second half started to wind down. Erik Johansson found Devlin at the top of the box with a pass, but his shot hit off the top of the crossbar.

In the overtime session, Eyre came up clutch again with a diving save in the opening minutes. In the sixth minute of overtime, Will Funez dished a pass to Diron Duah and received a return pass before slotting home the game-winning goal.

Funez led the Mountie attack with six shots, including three on frame. Duah had three shots along with the game-winning assist.

With the win, the Mounties improve to an impressive 2-0. Mount Aloysius returns to the field on Saturday for a 1 p.m. home kickoff against Albright College.
