Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team held a 41-34 halftime lead, but weren't able to hold on in the second half as Penn State Altoona came back to defeat the Mounties by a final score of 69-56 on Wednesday evening in conference action.
The visiting Mounties played tightly with the Lions throughout the opening portion of the contest and the two sides were tied 22-22 with 7:20 remaining in the first half. Mount Aloysius led 28-24 before embarking on a 13-4 run highlighted by a trio of three-point shots from
Josiah Jones that handed the Mounties a 41-28 lead with 2:52 to go in the period.
In the second half,
Tommy Pisula scored the opening bucket to push the Mountie lead to 43-34. The Lions then stormed back to tie the game at 45-45 with 13:20 left in the game, and the home team led by four points at 52-48 after Pisula made a layup attempt with 8:41 to go in the game. Penn State Altoona then scored the next eight points of the game in the next three minutes and didn't look back on their way to the win.
Pisula scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Mounties with a double-double effort.
Julian Stover scored 24 points and added four assists and four steals off the bench, and
Troy Williams hustled for six points and nine rebounds for Mount Aloysius.
After shooting at an efficient 50 percent in the first half, the Mounties shot just 6-for-33 (18.2 percent) in the second half.
The Mounties hit the court Saturday with a trip to Hilbert College for a conference tipoff at 1 p.m.
