Wright Carries Mounties Past Altoona

Altoona, PA - Jessa Wright scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team to a 82-73 victory over host Penn State Altoona on Wednesday evening in conference action.

Wright shot 11-for-19 from the field and made four shots from behind the arc to finish with her season high in points. Alexia Servello also finished in double figures for the Mounties with 18 points while adding six steals and five assists, and Kara Cordell recorded eight rebounds. Off the bench, Rachel Robinson scored nine points and recorded three steals.

The Mounties forced 28 turnovers on the defensive end and took care of the ball offensively with just seven turnovers. All nine Mountie players who saw the court registered at least one steal, and the defensive effort on the perimeter helped offset a hot shooting night from Penn State Altoona which shot 9-for-18 from behind the three-point arc.

Mount Aloysius fell behind 26-16 after the first quarter before cutting the gap to 39-36 at halftime. The Mounties took a 43-41 lead with 6:23 to go in the third quarter on a three-point shot from Wright, and closed the quarter leading 61-57. Mount Aloysius pulled away in the opening stages of the final quarter as the visitors went on a 12-2 run capped by a Servello basket to lead 73-59 with 7:26 remaining in the game. The Mounties led comfortably the rest of the way to record the conference win.

Mount Aloysius improves to 9-3 overall and stays unbeaten at 7-0 in conference play. They will face Hilbert on Saturday afternoon in a clash of the top two teams in the conference standings.
