Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team played strong defensively down the stretch and earned a 66-61 conference win over visiting Franciscan University on Wednesday evening.
Shaire Tolson-Ford led the Mountie defensive effort with five steals, while
Tommy Pisula drew multiple charges down the stretch and came up with seven rebounds for Mount Aloysius.
Julian Stover led the scoring charge with 21 points to go along with five assists and three steals, and Pisula scored 17 points.
Josiah Jones and Tolson-Ford were next in line with nine points apiece.
The Mounties forced a total of 18 Baron turnovers and only committed nine turnovers on the offensive end.
A back-and-forth first half saw the Mounties lead 30-29 when Jones drained a three-point shot just before the period expired. The game remained tight in the second half with the Mounties holding a 52-51 edge after Pisula hit a layup with 7:29 on the clock. Neither side could get breathing room and in the final minute the Mounties led 61-59. Mount Aloysius forced stops on two of the Barons final three possessions and hit 5-of-6 free throw attempts in the final minute to seal the win.
The Mounties earn their second conference win and now sit just a half game out of the sixth and final playoff spot in the AMCC. The Mounties will host D'Youville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
