Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort from start to finish as the Mounties defeated visiting D'Youville by a final score of 73-50 on Saturday afternoon in conference action.
The Mounties forced 23 D'Youville turnovers and held the Spartans to 18-for-57 (31.6 percent) shooting from the field for the ballgame. After taking a 31-26 lead into halftime, the Mounties expanded their lead to double digits in the third quarter and led 49-37 with 36 seconds to go in the quarter after
Kara Cordell hit a jumper off of a pass from
Breana Kendrick. The Mountie lead increased to 58-42 with just under six minutes remaining in the game after a three-point shot from Kendrick, and the Mounties comfortably took the victory down the stretch.
Kendrick scored 15 points while adding six rebounds and three steals, while Cordell scored 13 points to go along with seven boards and five steals.
Abby Kulick had a strong all-around game with 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Off the bench,
Katelyn Parisi contributed 10 points and
Katie Bracken recorded six points, six rebounds and three steals.
The Mounties improve to 9-1 in conference play and 11-4 overall. They return to the court Wednesday with a road matchup at Pitt-Greensburg at 8 p.m.
