Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight AMCC Contest

Greensburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team, carried by a career night from Trent McErlane, defeated host Pitt-Greensburg by a final score of 74-59 on Wednesday evening in conference action.

McErlane scored a career-high 26 points on the strength of an 8-for-11 showing from behind the three-point arc. He scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half to lead the Mounties to victory. Julian Stover had a tremendous all-around performance with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, while Tommy Pisula added 18 points, six rebounds and two steals. Off the bench, Shaire Tolson-Ford contributed six assists and four steals and David Swatsworth registered four points and six rebounds.

In the first half, the Mounties fell into a 10-3 hole before rallying to take a 14-13 lead with 11:13 remaining in the half on a Pisula layup. After holding a small advantage, Mount Aloysius opened up the game and led 28-18 on a three-point shot from McErlane with 2:17 to go. Mount Aloysius expanded their lead to 34-20 in the opening stages of the second half. Pitt-Greensburg cut the deficit to 38-30 with 15:46 left in the ballgame, but the Mounties went on a 15-6 run to seize a 53-36 advantage after another Pisula layup with 10:22 on the clock. The Mounties led comfortably by double digits for the remainder of the game.

The win is the third consecutive conference win for the Mounties, who improved to 4-7 in conference play and now sit in the sixth and final playoff spot in the conference standings with seven games remaining on the schedule. The Mounties return to the court Saturday to take on Penn State Behrend on the road at 1 p.m.
