Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team exploded for 31 points in a third quarter that allowed the Mounties to take a 57-40 lead on their way to a 65-48 victory over host Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday evening in conference action.
The Mounties were down 29-26 at halftime but responded with a 14-0 run to start the third quarter capped by a three-point shot from
Abby Kulick that gave Mount Aloysius a 40-29 advantage with 6:46 remaining in the period. The visitors increased their lead to 47-31 on a layup from Kulick with 4:25 to go, and a layup from
Breana Kendrick with four seconds left pushed the lead to 17 points heading into the final quarter. Mount Aloysius led by as much as 20 in the final session on their way to the victory.
Kulick led the Mounties with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Alexia Servello scored 14 points and
Rachel Robinson added 10 points.
Jessa Wright returned from injury to score 10 points off the bench while adding five rebounds and four steals.
Kara Cordell led the Mounties on the glass with nine rebounds.
Mount Aloysius forced 26 Pitt-Greensburg turnovers and held the Bobcats to a 3-for-19 (15.8 percent) showing from behind the arc.Â
The Mounties improve to 10-1 in conference play and 12-4 overall. They return to the court Saturday for a 3 p.m. tipoff at Penn State Behrend.Â
