Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team saw their three-game conference winning streak snapped as host Penn State Behrend took a 69-50 victory over the Mounties on Saturday afternoon.
Josiah Jones led the Mounties offensively with 26 points on the strength of a 7-for-11 showing from behind the three-point arc. Jones added seven rebounds, and
Julian Stover also finished in double figures for Mount Aloysius with 13 points to go along with four assists.
Tommy Pisula grabbed 11 rebounds and added four points, while Stover and
Trent McErlane both recorded two steals.
The Mounties held a 5-2 advantage early on before a 13-0 run by the home side gave Behrend a 15-5 lead with 13:26 to go in the first half. Mount Aloysius stayed close throughout the remainder of the half and trailed 29-22 at halftime. With 15:06 to play in the second half, the Mounties cut the deficit to six at 35-29 after Pisula converted a layup plus a free throw. Mount Aloysius trailed 46-38 with 9:30 remaining when the home team went on a 16-5 run over the next five minutes to seize control on their way to the win.Â
Penn State Behrend shot an efficient 23-for-46 (50 percent) from the field and 17-for-36 (47.2 percent) from behind the three-point line. The Mounties were held to 18-for-51 shooting (35.3 percent) for the ballgame. Mount Aloysius outrebounded Behrend by a 30-23 margin.
The Mounties fall to 4-8 in conference play and still sit at sixth in the conference standings. They will return to the court Wednesday with a 6 p.m. tipoff against La Roche.Â
