Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team held a 53-47 lead over host Penn State Behrend with just over six minutes remaining, but went 0-for-9 shooting for the rest of the ballgame as the Lions took a 65-54 victory on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.
Jessa Wright hit a layup with 6:20 to go in the game to push the Mountie lead to six points, but Mount Aloysius wouldn't score again until
Kara Cordell hit 1-for-2 at the line to cut the Behrend lead to 56-54 with two minutes to go. Behrend then scored on their final six possessions to escape with the win.Â
The Mounties had fallen behind 19-14 after the first quarter before dominating the second quarter to a 14-2 advantage to take a 28-21 lead into halftime. Mount Aloysius held its lead through the third quarter and a Cordell layup with four seconds in the period gave the visitors a 44-38 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Breana Kendrick scored 12 points while
Jessa Wright and
Abby Kulick both recorded double-double efforts. Wright had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Kulick registered 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Alexia Servello notched eight points, seven assists and five steals for the Mounties.Â
Mount Aloysius falls to 12-5 overall and 10-2 in conference play. They will host La Roche on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m.Â
