Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team trailed by four points early in the second half, but host La Roche College went on a decisive run on their way to capturing a 69-57 victory on Wednesday evening in conference action.
After a
Tommy Pisula layup on the first possession of the second half cut the Redhawk lead to 34-30, the home side ripped off 18 consecutive points to lead 48-30 with 13:52 remaining in the contest. The Mounties chipped away and brought the deficit back down to nine points when
Troy Williams converted a layup with 8:21 to go in the ballgame. But La Roche responded once again with three-point shots on their next two possessions to bring the advantage back up to 15 points on their way to the victory.
Josiah Jones led the Mounties offensive attack with 25 points in the contest, as she shot 5-for-12 from three-point range while adding four rebounds. Pisula recorded 11 points, four rebounds and two steals, while
Julian Stover scored 10 points and dished four assists.
The Mounties held an advantage in the shooting department as they converted on 21 of 48 field goal attempts (43.8 percent) compared to a 26-for-69 (37.7 percent) showing for La Roche. However, the Redhawks outrebounded the Mounties by a 47-25 margin and registered 26 offensive rebounds for the game.
The Mounties return to the court on Saturday with a home tipoff against Medaille College at 1 p.m.
