Box Score Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team notched a huge conference victory on Wednesday evening as they defeated the five-time defending AMCC champion La Roche College by a final score of 67-59. With the win, the Mounties move to 5-0 in conference play.
The victory over the Redhawks for the Mounties was the first since a 73-58 victory on February 14th, 2009. The win ended a 19-game losing streak to La Roche in both regular season and AMCC tournament play.
The two sides were even at halftime at 34-34, and the Mounties led 47-45 with 2:45 to go in the third quarter before ripping off six straight points to end the quarter leading 53-45. With 6:48 remaining in the fourth quarter,
Katie Bracken hit a jumper to increase the advantage to 62-50. La Roche cut the deficit to seven points down the stretch but weren't able to come back as the Mounties recorded the conference victory.
Jessa Wright led the Mounties with 19 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in a double-double effort.
Abby Kulick scored 18 points and added seven rebounds and five steals, while
Lea Sammarco scored 10 points off the bench for Mount Aloysius.
Alexia Servello led the team with four assists. Defensively, the Mounties forced 23 turnovers and registered 15 steals for the game.
The Mounties return to the court Saturday with a 3 p.m. matchup at home against Medaille College.
