Dominant First Quarter Leads Mounties to Victory

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team outscored Medaille 16-2 in the opening quarter on their way to a 67-53 victory over the Mavericks on Saturday afternoon. 

Medaille scored the first basket of the game before the Mounties responded with 16 straight points. Mount Aloysius held a double-digit advantage throughout the second quarter and led 39-21 at halftime after Katie Bracken scored with 33 seconds left in the half. In the second period of play, the Mounties continued to hold a significant lead and eased to the 14-point victory.

The Mounties had a balanced scoring attack with five players reaching double figures. Jessa Wright scored 13 points along with six rebounds, while Bracken, Alexia Servello, Abby Kulick and Breana Kendrick each scored 10 points. Kulick and Kendrick each notched three steals.

The Mounties improve to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play. They return to the court Wednesday with an 8 p.m. tipoff at Penn State Altoona.
