Buffalo, NY- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer season came to an end on Wednesday as they fell to Medaille College by a score of 2-1. Despite winning at Medaille earlier in the year and scoring an early goal, the Mounties were unable to hold on to book a trip to the conference championship match.
The Mounties came out strong in the match as they started out on the attack early. In the 7th minute,
Ludvig Hegdal was able to toe poke a pass to the left wing where
Pau Aran was waiting. Aran sweetly struck a one time shot with the inside of his foot that finished in the side netting. The goal was Aran's 8th of the year. Medaille struck back with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half as they were able to win, and convert a penalty kick.
After halftime the Mavericks took the lead on a Lachlan Beever headed goal a minute after the break, The Mounties were resilient in the second half and had two opportunities to tie the game, both coming off the feet of freshmen. With 10 minutes remaining in the match,
Joshua Christie found the ball and space about 25 yards away from the net. He struck a hard shot that looked as if it was headed to the top corner until the Medaille goalkeeper made an incredible diving save to preserve the lead. Finally in the last minute,
Connor Pielmeier was able to get a shot off that found its way through the defense and struck the post denying the Mounties the chance to extend their season into an overtime period.
The Mounties finish their season with a 15-4-1 record. The win total is their second highest in program history, and their season included a program best 13 match winning streak.
