Cresson PA- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team won their conference semi-final match on Wednesday to advance to the programs first conference Championship game. They defeated D'Youville College by a score of 1-0.
The Mounties faced a tough D'Youville defense that played conservatively the entire match. The Mounties were able to muster 12 shots in the match putting 6 of them on target.
Maddie Doyle and
Cheyenne Kuncher led the way with 3 shots a piece. The Mounties breakthrough came in the 24th minute after
Jordan Gebhart was brought down in the area for a penalty. Kuncher stepped up and calmly put the penalty kick away to give the Mounties the advantage. The goal was Kuncher's 10th of the season.
The Mounties defense had a strong game, allowing their opponents to take only 7 shots. Goalkeeper
Lauren Davey made 2 saves to pick up her 13th win and 8th shutout of the season.
The Mounties (14-2-2) advance to the conference Championship game on Saturday. They will take on Penn State Behrend, who they narrowly lost to earlier this season on an 87th minute goal.
