Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team used a strong second half showing to defeat Medaille College 64-55.
In a hard fought defensive game, the Mounties and Mavericks traded baskets through the majority of the first half. The Mounties used a 10-0 run to build a 7 point lead. The run was capped with a
Trent McErlane (Greenville,PA/Greenville) three with 11:04 remaining. The Mavericks would slowly chip into the Mountie lead and use a 9-2 run to close the half with a four point lead. The Mavericks would double the lead to start the second, but the Mounties stout defense allowed them to go on a 26-8 run to go ahead 10. The Mountie lead grew to as many as 13 after two
Julian Stover (Washington, DC/Richard Montgomery) free throws, with 4 to go. In the final minutes, Medaille whittled the lead to 7, however McErlane would come up clutch from the line again to ice the game.Â
Stover led the way for the Mounties offensively, finishing with 16 points. He finished 5-8 from the field, including 2-2 from deep and made all 4 free throws he attempted.
Imrane Amadou (Cotonou, Benin/Harcum Junior College) finished with a double-double, scoring 13 and hauling in 13 boards. McErlane and
Carlos Palacios (Bilbao, Spain/Phelps School) also finished in double figures with 11.
The Mounties (4-3, 2-0) will see their next action on Wednesday, when they host Franciscan University in AMCC action.
