Mounties Fall to Penn State Behrend 54-45

Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team lost their first game in AMCC play Sunday, as they fell at Penn State Behrend by a score of 54-45. The loss ended the Mounties' 5-game winning streak.

The Mounties struggled early as Behrend made two threes to go ahead in the first few minutes of the game. The Mounties answered with a 11-3 run as 4 of the 5 Mounties on the floor contributed with a basket each. Trent McErlane (Greenville, PA/Greenville) and Nate Christian (Accokeek, MD/Surratsville) hit a three each while Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain/Phelps School) and Imrane Amadou (Cotonou, Benin/Harcum Junior College) added layups inside. The teams would trade leads throughout the first half, until Penn State Behrend closed the period on a 8-2 run in the final 4 minutes.

After an early stretch in the second half that saw the Behrend lead expand to 9, the Mounties scored 8 straight points over 2 minutes to cut the lead to one. The run was capped when Azim Hutson (Orlando, FL/Ocoee) banked home a three from the right wing. The Mounties took the lead with 9 minutes to go as Hutson hit another jumper in the paint, however Behrend would respond again with a 16-5 to build a ten-point lead, which the Mounties would not overcome.

Palacio finished with 11 to lead the Mounties, while Tommy Pisula put in a strong performance scoring 9 points, shooting 4-4 from the field, and grabbing 8 rebounds including 3 on the offensive end.

The loss moves the Mounties to 6-4 on the season with a 4-1 record in AMCC play. The Mounties will take a break over the holiday and will return to action on December 29th and 30th, as they will travel Nashville, Tennessee to play in the D3 Hoops Music City Classic. They will take on Hampden-Sydney College on the 29th and Wisconsin-Eau Claire on the 30th.
