Mountie Men's Basketball Wins 5th Straight, Takes Down Hilbert on the Road

Box Score Buffalo, NY- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team moved to 4-0 in conference as they took down Hilbert College on Saturday by a score of 75-70.

The Mounties got off to a trademark quick start as Josiah Jones (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder) scored a quick 6 points within 47 seconds of game time. After a Julian Stover (Washington, DC/Richard Montgomery) steal, Jones finished off a layup through contact and made the free throw to complete the three point play. He followed this up with a three pointer from the wing on the very next possession. After trading baskets and the lead for the next 7 minutes, the Mounties went on a 21-5 run to close the half. In the scoring run Trent McErlane (Greenville, PA/Greenville) hit three from down town and Nate Christian (Accokeek, MD/Surratsville) hit three tough shots in the lane.

The second half saw the Mounties offense run through Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain) as he scored 22 of the Mounties 41 points in the half. This included a near 10 minute stretch where Palacio scored 12 straight points for the Mounties. During that stretch Hilbert was able to slowly cut into the lead, getting it down to 1 with 3:39 to go after a three pointer from the corner. The resilient Mounties were able to come right back as Christian answered with a three of his own. The teams would trade baskets for the next 2 minutes, but the Mounties stout defense would mix with an efficient finish to push the lead back to 7 with 40 seconds to go. Stover and Tommy Pisula (Scottdale, PA/Southmoreland) would hit all of their free throws down the stretch to put the game away for the Mounties.

Palacio's strong second half performance gave him 26 points for the contest. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Double digit scorers for the Mounties were Christian, who finished with 13 points McErlane with 12 points and Pisula with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

The Mounties move to 6-3 on the season with a 4-0 record in AMCC play. They will have a week off before they travel to Penn State Behrend next Sunday, for a game starting at 4:00 PM
