Second Half Run Pushes Mavericks over Mounties

Box Score
Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team was tied 36-36 with host Medaille College with under 14 minutes remaining, but a late run by the Mavericks pushed them past the Mounties by a final score of 71-58 on Saturday afternoon in conference action.

After going into halftime tied 27-27, the Mounties continued their strong play on the road and were tied with the Mavericks at 36-36 when Tommy Pisula hit a layup with 14:40 to go in the second half. The Mavericks then went on a decisive 16-3 run over the next five minutes to lead 52-39 before Julian Stover hit a three-point shot with 8:28 to go to cut the deficit to 10 points. However, the Mounties weren't able to cut the Maverick lead any further as the home side marched to the victory.

Stover scored 13 points and added five rebounds for Mount Aloysius, while Pisula added nine points, six rebounds and two steals. David Swatsworth contributed eight points and seven rebounds, and Shaire Tolson-Ford registered nine points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench.

The Mounties drop to 5-11 in conference play but still hold a one-game lead over Pitt-Greensburg and Franciscan for the sixth and final playoff spot in the AMCC standings with two games left. Mount Aloysius will travel to Franciscan on Wednesday for a crucial conference matchup at 6 p.m. The Mounties could clinch a playoff berth with a win on Wednesday combined with a Pitt-Greensburg loss to La Roche.
