Men's Basketball Season Concludes in AMCC Playoffs

Box Score
Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team saw its season come to a close in the first round of the AMCC playoffs on Wednesday evening as the Mounties kept the game tight before a late push by the host Medaille Mavericks pushed the home side to a 78-58 victory.

The Mounties, who lost star guard Julian Stover in the first half to injury, fought valiantly and trailed by just nine points at 63-54 after Shaire Tolson-Ford nailed a three-point shot with 4:19 remaining in the ballgame. The Mavericks quickly responded with 8 straight points to push the lead to 71-54, and the Mounties weren't able to get within single digits over the final minutes.

Mount Aloysius kept things tight in the first half to stay within striking distance, and a Tommy Pisula layup plus a free throw cut the Medaille lead to 29-23 with 13 seconds to go in the half before the Mavericks scored with two seconds left to take a 32-23 advantage into halftime. Pisula made another layup just under a minute into the second half to decrease the deficit to five points, before Medaille gradually built a 19-point advantage with 12 minutes left in the game. Mount Aloysius chipped away until Tolson Ford's shot from behind the arc got the Mounties within single digits.

Pisula led the Mounties with 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Josiah Jones scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a double-double effort off the bench, while David Swatsworth added seven points and eight rebounds. Stover scored five points and notched seven rebounds in 14 minutes before departing due to injury.

The Mounties outrebounded the Mavericks 41-31, but hit just one three-point shot compared to 11 made three-point shots for Medaille.

Mount Aloysius, under first year coach Will Cabrera, concludes its season after earning a playoff berth for the first time since 2012-2013.
