Mounties Lose Two at Emory and Henry

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Emory, VA - The Mount Aloysius Baseball team started a three game series at Emory and Henry with a double header on Friday. The Mounties lost both contests by scores of 3-2 and 7-2.

 Andrew Shreiner took the hill in game one, and put in a solid four innings work, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and 2 walks, striking out two. After The Wasps were able to score two runs in the 5th, freshman Nick Lagnese put in another solid relief effort, getting out of a two out jam in the 5th and setting down the side in order in the bottom of the 6th to give the Mounties a chance to tie the game in the 7th.

The Mounties first run came in the 4th inning. Junior Matthew McCourt led the inning off with a single, and advanced to third base after consecutive ground outs. Designated Hitter Sam Keibler, came through with a clutch 2 out RBI single to tie the game at 1. Mount Aloysius was able able to pull one back in the 7th with a Sam Keibler RBI single, but were unable to complete the comeback, as Daniel Singer flew out to centerfield with the tying run in scoring position.

Game two saw Michael McCourt start for the Mounties. McCourt gave up 3 runs in 4 innings, while walking 3 and striking out 1. Another tough 5th inning saw Emory and Henry score 4 runs, to extend their lead to 7-1. In his Mount Aloysius debut, freshman Douglas Cannon, was able to get his team out of the 6th and pitch a perfect 7th inning, retiring all four batters he faced

Offensively the Mounties runs came in the second and seventh innings. After Singer led off the inning with a double to the right center gap and TJ Wardwelll singled through the left side, Jeremy Iellimo drove in the run on a ground ball that was booted by the Emory and Henry shortstop. Wardwell was also involved in the second run, leading off the 7th with a single, and later scoring on a Garlock single.

The Mounties will have a chance to strike back in a 9 inning game tomorrow, starting at 12:00 PM.
