Mounties Fall in Slugfest

Emory, VA - The Mount Aloysius Baseball team lost to Emory & Henry in walk off fashion Saturday afternoon by a final score of 15-14.

The teams traded off runs the entire game, with the action coming to a head at the end of the game. Down one run in the top of the 9th, TJ Wardwell hit a clutch two-run home run over the left field fence to give the Mounties a one run lead. Unfortunately the Mounties were not able to hold the lead in the bottom of the 9th as Emory & Henry scratched 2 runs across with the game winner scoring on a high chopper over a drawn-in infield. 

The Mounties finished the game with 21 hits, which is three more than they were able to muster through their first three games. AMCC Pre-Season Player of the Year Matthew McCourt broke out in the the game, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and two doubles, knocking in four runs for the Mounties. Infielder Nicholas Belka and senior catcher Patrick Jobes each had strong games at the back of the lineup, finishing with three hits each. Wardwell completed the game going 4-for-6 at the plate with 2 runs and 3 RBIs.

The Mounties fall to 0-4 on the season, and will have a week off before heading to Myrtle Beach to participate in the Ripken Experience over spring break. They will play 8 games in a 7 day stretch, starting with a double header against the College of Staten Island on Saturday March 3rd.
