Mounties Win Double OT Thriller, Advance to Title Game

Hamburg, NY - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team won a double overtime thriller by a final score of 103-93 over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon in an AMCC Semifinal matchup. 

In the fourth quarter, Pitt-Bradford took a six-point lead at 75-69 with 3:05 left on the clock, and the Panthers held a 77-71 advantage with two minutes to play. The Mounties kept fighting and Kara Cordell made a layup to cut the deficit to 78-75 with 33 seconds remaining. The Mounties then forced a turnover, and Jessa Wright came up huge with a three-point shot from the top of the key to tie the game. The Panthers had a look with two seconds left that hit the back rim as the teams went to overtime tied 78-78.

Scoring was hard to come by in the first overtime as the Panthers hit three free throws over the first three minutes of the period, and the Mounties didn't score until Rachel Robinson came up with a steal and soared in for a layup to cut the Pitt-Bradford edge to 81-80 with 1:34 to go. The teams traded baskets before Abby Kulick hit a jump shot with 53 seconds left to tie the game at 84-84. Following a Panther turnover, Wright again came up clutch with a long three-point shot to give the Mounties a 87-84 advantage. Mount Aloysius got a defensive stop, but Robinson missed two free throws to give Pitt-Bradford hope. Jennifer Isenberg took advantage and hit a triple from the right wing with three seconds remaining to force a second overtime. 

In the second overtime session, the Mounties quickly built a six-point lead. Mount Aloysius led by four points when Katie Bracken nailed a jump shot to push the lead to 99-93 with 35 seconds to play. Breana Kendrick hit a layup after a defensive stop and Wright knocked down two free throws with 10 seconds left as the Mounties secured the playoff victory.

Six Mounties finished in double figures in scoring. Wright scored 23 points and added 12 rebounds to lead the Mounties. Kulick notched 16 points and was all over the defensive end with eight steals, while Kara Cordell contributed 14 points and five blocks. Robinson scored 15 points and Kendrick added 14 points off the bench, and Bracken recorded 13 points. Alexia Servello had a strong floor game with seven assists and just one turnover, and the senior point guard corralled eight rebounds. 

Ali Rinfrette led the Panthers and filled the stat sheet with 34 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and four blocks. Isenberg scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. 

With the win, the Mounties advance to tomorrow's championship game against #1 seed and tournament host Hilbert College. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
