Men's Basketball Rallies to Defeat Pitt-Bradford

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team rallied from a double-digit first half deficit to defeat visiting Pitt-Bradford by a final score of 57-52 on Saturday afternoon in conference action.

The Mounties fell behind 29-11 halfway through the first half before chipping away. Mount Aloysius would cut the deficit to 36-28 after David Swatsworth drilled a three-point attempt with 1:40 to go in the period.

In the second half, the Mounties made their mark on the defensive end and the game was tied 38-38 with 11:49 to play after Julian Stover was successful on a jump shot. With 6:15 left in the ballgame, Tommy Pisula drained a layup plus a free throw to hand the home team a 49-44 advantage. The Mounties increased their lead to seven points before the Panthers cut the gap to three at 53-50 with 1:52 on the clock. Shaire Tolson-Ford hit two free throws and the Panthers responded with a basket to make it 55-52 with 43 seconds to go. The Mounties missed two layups on their next trip, but after a Pitt-Bradford timeout Tolson-Ford stole the inbounds pass and hit two more free throws after being fouled to secure the victory.

Stover scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double effort. Swatsworth and Pisula both recorded 12 points and eight rebounds apiece, and Tolson-Ford scored 10 points to go with three steals off the bench.

The Mounties won the rebound battle with a 42-27 advantage and held the Panthers to 16 second-half points.

The Mounties improve to 5-9 in conference play and now have sole possession of the sixth and final playoff spot by one game in the standings with four games remaining on the conference schedule. Mount Aloysius will host Penn State Altoona on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
