Wright Scores 27 as Mounties Down Panthers

Cresson, PA - Sophomore Jessa Wright poured in 27 points as the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team defeated Pitt-Bradford by a final score of 71-55 on Saturday afternoon in an AMCC contest.

Wright was the lone Mountie in double figures as she shot 9-for-16 from the field and 6-for-12 from three-point range to record her 27 points. She added 10 rebounds in a double-double effort and also notched two steals. Breana Kendrick scored nine points to go along with three assists and two steals, and Lea Sammarco scored eight points off the bench.

Mount Aloysius jumped all over the visiting Panthers early on and led 29-15 after the first quarter. The Mounties hit five three-point shots in the first five minutes of the game capped by a triple from Wright that expanded the lead to 17-5 with 5:14 to go in the quarter. Sammarco hit a three-point shot with 2:48 left in the quarter to make it 24-10. In the second quarter, the Mounties increased their lead to 20 points with 1:57 to play on a Wright free throw before taking a 41-26 advantage into halftime. Mount Aloysius held a double-digit lead throughout the second half, including bringing the lead above 20 points in the late going, on their way to the conference victory.

The Mounties improve to 12-2 in conference play and 14-5 overall and sit in second place in the conference standings, one game behind Hilbert College. They will host Penn State Altoona on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
