Myrtle Beach, SC - The Mount Aloysius baseball team lost a tough nine-inning game against Eastern Mennonite University by a final score of 4-3 under the lights on Sunday.

Right-hander Michael McCourt started the game for the Mounties, and despite a tough first inning, pitched six strong innings. After a first inning which saw EMU score three runs, McCourt settled down, allowing one earned run on three hits over the next five innings. McCourt finished his day giving up three runs on six hits while striking out nine Royals. Nick Lagnese also put in a solid performance, allowing one run in three innings.

The Mounties bats stayed quiet for five innings, but began their comeback attempt in the bottom of the 6th. After a leadoff walk, Aaron Shinn doubled to the gap in left center to knock in Nicholas Belka. Sam Keibler followed that up with an RBI single up the middle to cut the lead to 4-2. The Mounties cut the lead to one in 7th when TJ Wardwell singled in Matthew McCourt with two outs.

The Royals answered with a run of their own in the top of the 8th, and the Mounties were unable to make up the two-run deficit in their last two at bats.

The Mounties fall to 0-7, but will get right back to the field tomorrow morning when they face Wilkes University at 10:00 am.
