Huntingdon, PA - The Mount Aloysius Baseball team lost two tight non-conference contests against Juniata College on Thursday by scores of 5-4 and 4-0.
The Mounties got off to a quick start in the first game as they would score 2 runs on 3 hits.
Matthew McCourt hit a 1-out double to left field to set things up for a hot hitting
Nicholas Belka who drove in the first two runs with a clutch two out single through the right side of the infield. Juniata would tie the game up quickly with a 2 run homer in their at bat in the first. Senior
Tristan Gelvin kept things close for the Mounties allowing 4 runs over 5 innings pitched.Â
McCourt came up big again in the top of the 6th as he drove a lead off home run over the left field fence to cut the Juniata lead to 1. After the Juniata was able to restore the 2-run lead in the bottom of the 6th, the Mounties attempted a 7th inning rally. After 1-out singles by
Chase Miller and pinch hitter
Matthew Brown, freshman
Jeremy Iellimo drove a double to center field to score one and leave runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Mounties were unable to complete the rally as the next two batters grounded into fielders choices to end the game.
Game two saw the Mounties struggle at the plate. A lineup that included 5 changes from game one was only able to muster two hits against Juniata pitching, a Belka single in the first inning, and a
Ryan Leonard double to center in the 2nd.
Austin Steedle started the game for Mount Aloysius and allowed 4 runs, 2 earned over an inning and a third. The Mounties did see strong work from their bullpen as junior
Ryan McElwee worked 3 and 2/3 scoreless innings and
Aaron Shinn pitched a scoreless 6th.
The Mounties (4-17) will be in action at home this weekend. They will play two AMCC doubleheaders as they will host Hilbert College on Saturday and Pitt-Bradford on Sunday, both sets starting at 1PM.
