Mountie Women Pour in 5 Against Bethany

Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team remained undefeated on Wednesday night as they defeated Bethany College 5-2.

The Mounties jumped out to a 2-0, as they scored their first two goals in a 5 minute span. In the 12th minute Sam Torrenti received a cut back pass from left back Amanda Brancato at the edge of the 18 yard box. Torrenti took two dribbles and ripped a left footed past the keeper to put the Mounties up 1. After a Jordan Gebhart headed goal was taken off the board for offsides, the Mounties stayed on the attack and scored 2 minutes later. Gebhart was able to head a ball to Cheyenne Kuncher who was streaking into the box. Kuncher collected the ball and beat the keeper on the near post to double the Mountie advantage.

Bethany was able to pull two back, one on each side of halftime through Grace Chambers. Mount Aloysius was able to respond quickly. In the 57th minute Gebhart was fouled just inside the 18 yard box, setting the Mounties up from the penalty spot. Summer Schell stepped up and calmly put the ball into the back of the net to put the Mounties back on top. The Mounties 4th goal came off of a corner kick. Sara Testa was able to win a header off the corner only to see it blocked by a defender. Testa intercepted the attempted clearance and turned a right footed volley into the top right corner. The final Mount Aloysius goal came in the final minute of play. After a throw in, Kourtney Walls played a looping pass into the center of the box. Gebhart was able to squeeze between two defenders and head the ball over the oncoming keeper to score the 5th goal of the game.

Kuncher led the Mounties balanced effort with 4 shots, two of them on frame. Freshman Maddie Doyle also put both of her two shots on target. Lauren Davey made two saves in the contest, picking up her 6th victory.

The Mounties (6-0) will return to action this weekend when they host Waynesburg University at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
