Ebensburg, PA- The Mount Aloysius Men's Tennis team won its first contest of their non-traditional Fall season, defeating Marietta College 5-4.
In doubles play, Mount Aloysius was able to win two of three contests. The top pairings of
Matt Blose/
Nick Goldyn and
Cole Kazmierczyk/
Dylan Matta were able to win tight matches, both finishing with a score of 8-6.
In singles play the Mounties fell behind Marietta 4-2 after losing three matches at the 4th, 5th and 6th pairings, all played inside the Ebensburg Tennis Center. On the outdoor courts, Mount Aloysius started the comeback when Freshman
Matt Blose dispatched his opponent at the top pairing. Blose used his blistering serve to easily win the match 6-2, 6-0. Fellow Freshman
Cole Kazmierczyk was able to pick up his first win in a Mountie uniform in comeback fashion. After losing the first set 6-4, Cole dominated the second set 6-0 and easily took the tie-breaking set 10-4.
The last match to finish was in the third pairing where Senior
Nick Goldyn put ina gutsy performance to clinch the Mountie victory. Goldyn lost the first set of the match 7-5 but came back strong in the second, holding on for a 7-6 victory. In the deciding third tiebreaker set, which normally ends at 10, Goldyn outlasted his opponent, winning the set 16-14 to clinch the Mountie victory.
The Mounties play one more match in their non-traditional season before their normal schedule resumes in February. They will travel to Maryland to take on Frostburg State next Sunday, September 23rd.
