Altoona, Pa- The Mount Aloysius Men's Tennis team picked up a victory in its first match of the Spring season on Saturday. They defeated Alfred University by a score of 6-3.
In doubles play, the Mounties were able to take the top two pairings. Freshman
Matt Blose (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) and senior
Nick Goldyn (Sidman, PA/Forest Hills) won the #1 match while freshman
Cole Kazmierczyk (Johnstown, PA/Richland) and senior
Dylan Matta (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) won the #2 match, both by a score of 8 games to 4. Seniors
Christopher Godet ( Nassau Bahamas/Queen's College) and
Gavin Spellmeyer (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) had a fard fought match in the third pairing, but fell 9-7.
Blose easily won the top singles match, winning 6-1, 6-2. Goldyn picked up a 6-0, 7-5 victory at #3 singles, Matta won 6-1,6-2 at #4 and Godet won his match 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth spot.
The Mounties will return to action on Saturday February 16th when they host Bethany at the Summit Athletic Club in Altoona.Â
