Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team won their second game in as many days on Sunday. The Mounties outlasted Hood College 2-1 on a hot day on the new turf field at Mount Aloysius.
Things started off strong for the Mounties as they were able to get ahead with an early goal. Just into the 10th minute of play,
Katie Mirance used her excellent pace down the right wing to get behind the Hood defensive line. She ripped a shot off the near post. The rebound ricocheted off the post directly into the path of freshman
Kourtney Walls, who quickly reacted and scored easily. The goal was Walls' third of the season, and Mirance was credited with an assist.
The two teams had a back and forth affair for the next hour plus, with both teams splitting the possession and chances. In the 83rd minute, Centerback
Summer Schell released a free kick from just inside the half way line. The long ball bounced just outside the eighteen yard box and senior
Jordan Gebhart was able to beat the onrushing keeper to the ball. Gebhart looped a header over the keeper through contact and gave the Mounties a 2 goal lead.
Hood was able to pull a late goal back in the 87th minute, as a turnover deep in their defensive half led to a low cross and a beautifully placed one time effort from Hood's Elisa Botten, which just curled around the outstretched hands of keeper
Lauren Davey. Despite the goal allowed, Davey made 5 saves in the contest to pick up her 2nd win of the season.
The Lady Mounties (2-0) will have a day off, then travel to Geneva College on Tuesday for more non-conference action.
