Mount Aloysius Soccer Defeats Albright

Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team picked up its first win on the year Wednesday Night. In a game that was previously scheduled to be at Albright, The Mounties were able to pick up a 2-0 victory under the lights.

The first half saw the Mounties control most of the possession and attacking opportunities, as they were able to fire 15 shots in the half with 10 of them on frame. Despite the attacking advantage, the Mounties were unable to put one past the Albright goalkeeper. For the Mounties junior goalkeeper James Eyre saved 3 early shots on goal, keeping the match scoreless at the half.

The Mounties used two quick goals in the second half to put the Lions away. In the 62nd minute Joshua Devlin beat a defender on the right wing and fired a low cross into the 6 yard box. The cross found freshman Ludvig Hegdal, who calmly put a shot on goal which deflected into the net. The goal was Hegdal's first. Less than three minutes later, another freshman Mountie would open his collegiate account. After winning a corner, Mount Aloysius ran a set play on a short corner. Devlin played the short pass to Pau Aran who twisted around the defender and fired a pass into the middle to Lachie Back. Back put his one time effort into the corner to double the Mountie lead.

The Mounties had a strong defensive effort in the game. Starting defenders Pete Smerecky, Christopher Godet, Oscar Andersson and Adam Rees, along with two substitutes Luis Miravitlles and Domity Dahn had a joint good performances in front of Eyre, who only needed to make 4 saves to pick up his second shutout of the season,

The Mounties (1-1-1) will have a few days off before returning to non-conference action  over the weekend. They will travel to Thiel College on Saturday, and follow that up with a home game against. Saint Vincent College.
