Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mounties Beat D'Youville at Home

Cresson, PA- After being away from home for over a month the Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball returned to the ACWC on Saturday and picked up their 5th home win of the season. They defeated D'Youville 65-62 in a game which they never trailed.

The Mounties used the inside presence of Imrane Amadou (Cotonou, Benin/Harcum Junior College) to build a 13-5 lead in the opening 5 minutes of play. Amadou scored 8 of the Mounties 13 early points, with all of them coming in the paint. After D'Youville cut the lead to three, Josiah Jones (Gaithersburg, MD/Mugruder) completed an old fashioned three point play to start the Mounties on an 15-3 run, which Jones also punctuated with a deep three from the wing. The Mounties struggled offensively after the offensive spurt, as they scored only 2 points in the final 6 minutes of the first, which allowed the Spartans to cut the lead to 4.

D'Youville came out strong out of the locker room, looking to cut further into the Mounties lead, however the Mount Aloysius was able to respond to each D'Youville basket. With the Mounties up 3 with 8:10 to go, Junior Guard Julian Stover (Washington, DC/Richard Montgomery) took over for Mount Aloysius, scoring on 4 of the next 5 possessions for the Mounties, to push the lead back to 9. D'Youville responded to cut the lead to 2, however Nate Christian (Accokeek, MD/Surratsville/Hood) hit 4 clutch free throws to clinch the game for Mount Aloysius.

The Mounties finished the game with 5 players in double figures. Christian led the way with 17, including making 10-12 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 11 rebounds including 4 on the offensive end to complete the double-double. Stover finished with 13, and Amadou with 11. Jones had an efficient game with 10 points on 3-4 shooting including 2-3 from three. Finally Carlos Palacio finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds in only 20 minutes of game action.

The Mounties (8-7, 5-3) will return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg for the final game of the first round of AMCC competition.
