Reading, PA -- The Mount Aloysius College Bowling team took to the lanes on Saturday and Sunday at the Bud Whitman Invitational, in Reading, PA.
In a day of five-game Baker play on Saturday, the Mounties tallied three wins and two losses rolling a team average of 171. The Mounties began the day with wins against Caldwell, 871-848, and Mount St. Mary's, 869-857. LIU rolled an impressive 1028 to defeat the Mounties' total of 854. Mount Aloysius recovered in match four against Coppin State, 898-860 They ultimately lost to Howard 923-805.
Leading scorer for the Mounties was Freshman,Â
Savannah Prather (Erie, PA, Harbor Creek), who anchored the team most of the day with a 18.5 average for 50 frames.Â
Kaitlyn Klein (Erie, PA, Mercyhurst Prep)Â had a strong showing averaging 18.2 for 42 frames and
Megan Weaver (Gettysburg, PA, Gettysburg)Â rolled her highest Baker average with a 17.3 for 36 frames.
On day two, competition shifted to the traditional scoring format. High scorers for the day were
Michelle Bello (Pennsauken, NJ, Pennsauken)Â with a 188 average, Klein with a 185 and Weaver with a 175.Â
Despite bowling well, the Mounties faced some very difficult matches and fell to Felician, 901-821, Chestnut Hill, 875-849, Duquesne, 1011-856, and Adelphi, 1088-912. The only win of the afternoon was against Bloomfield, 901-808. Overall the team averaged 173. Mount Aloysius ended the day in 10th place out of 14 teams.
"We faced four teams that are ranked in the Division I poll and two teams ranked in the DII/DIII poll and held our ground," said Coach
Barbara Jones. "The first week of competition is always a difficult one since the bowlers are unable to work with the coaching staff until October 1. Based on the limited time we have spent at the lanes, I am very optimistic that this team is going to do great things. They are very skilled, highly motivated and hungry for wins." Â
Mount Aloysius will be hosting dual matches on each October 19 and October 20 at the Bavarian Aid Society, in Altoona, against La Roche and Penn State Altoona. They will prepare for the Virginia Union Invitational, after that, which will take place the first weekend of November.
