Ebensburg -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Tennis team hosted the first round of the AMCC Tournament on Saturday afternoon, at Ebensburg Tennis Center. They hosted the #6 seed, Penn State Altoona.
In the AMCC Tournament, matches are played to decision, meaning the first team to five points wins the match.
The match was back and forth right from the very beginning. Penn State Altoona took two of the three Doubles matches.Â
Chloe Love (Duncansville, PA, Hollidaysburg) andÂ
Payton Whysong (Imler, PA, Chestnut Ridge) were able to take a point at #1 Doubles, 8-1.
With the Lions leading 2-1, the teams headed to the Singles portion. All six matches started at the same time.
Mount Aloysius got the first point to tie the match at two, as Whysong was able to win 6-0, 6-1, at #2 Singles. The #5 Singles match finished next, as Altoona picked up the point there, giving them a 3-2 lead.
Love got the point from the #1 Singles match, as she was able to beat her opponent, 6-4, 6-1. With Love's point, the match was again tied, this time at three. Mount Aloysius'Â
Emily Abramowich (Somerset, PA, Somerset) picked up a valuable point at the #3 singles match, as she needed a tiebreaker set to beat her Altoona opponent. She won the first set 6-1, then lost the second set 6-0. She was able to put it together in set number three, as she won 10-5.
With the Mounties ahead 4-3, the match headed outside as the final two points were being decided. BothÂ
Krishna Rana (Toledo, OH) andÂ
Maggie Willason (Johnstown, PA, Richland) held strong in their respective matches, as they took them both to tiebreaker sets. Rana and Willason fought valiantly, but each fell with 10-7 and 10-8 scores, in the third set.
The Lions won the match 5-4. They will move on to play #2 Medaille, in the AMCC Semi-finals. The Mounties finished up the 2019 season on Sunday, with a non-conference match against Thiel. They fell to the Tomcats 6-3.
