Greensburg -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team traveled to Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday afternoon. They fell to the Bobcats, 3-1.
Following a surprise start to the season for the Pitt-Greensburg women's team, that was picked fifth in the preseason, the Mounties found themselves heading to play a 15-0 Bobcat team. UPG came into the game at 7-0 in the AMCC, while the Mounties came in with a 4-1-2 record.
The game was played pretty even through the first 19 minutes, as Mount Aloysius attempted the only shot on goal. UPG Freshman Ashley Lucas got the Bobcats on the board first, with her 21st goal of the season. She is currently tied for second in Division III, in goals scored.
In the following 14 minutes, only Pitt-Greensburg put a lone shot on goal, which was saved by
Lauren Davey (Leonardtown, MD, St. Mary's Ryken). Davey finished with five saves on the day. During the 35th minute,Â
Jenna Gardner (Montoursville, PA, Loyalsock) was able to find the back of the net, for her first goal of the season. The goal knotted the game at one, where it would stay heading into the half.
For 36 minutes of the second half, the game remained even. In those 36 minutes, there were only three total shots on goal, two for the Mounties. In the 82nd minute, Pitt-Greensburg broke the tie, with the first goal of the season by Juliana Bedoya. The Bobcats would get an insurance goal, just over four minutes later and extend the lead to 3-1.
In the final four minutes, Mount Aloysius was unable to get any scoring opportunities.
With the loss, Mount Aloysius falls to 4-2-2 in AMCC play, with two regular season games remaining. To view the current standings, click
here. They will look to get back on track, Saturday, when they take on Alfred State. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Mounties.
