Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mounties Explode for Nine Goals Against Pioneers

Cresson -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team hosted Alfred State on Saturday, as they also recognized their seniors pre-game. They also exploded for nine goals, as they whacked the Pioneers, 9-0.

Seniors Brandi Dickey (Friedens, PA, Somerset), Maddie Doyle (Abington, PA, Abington), Katie Mirance (Chesapeake, VA, Great Bridge), Summer Schell (Hershey, PA, Hershey), Kaeli Smith (Lilly, PA, Penn Cambria), and Sam Torrenti (Chester, CT, Valley Regional) were honored prior to the start of Saturday's game. Dickey was the only one not to play, as she was out with an injury.

Doyle got the scoring started early, as she scored less than five minutes into the game. She got the pass from Torrenti, who was credited with the assist. It was Doyle's fourth goal of the season. Following that up less than five minutes later, Mirance got in on the action and scored her second goal of the year.

Mount Aloysius would score four more goals in the half, sandwiched around a marker from the Pioneers. Smith scored her second goal of her senior season, on an assist from Kourtney Walls (Salix, PA, Forest Hills). Jenna Gardner (Montoursville, PA, Loyalsock) then added her second goal, in as many games, to make the score 4-0 Mount Aloysius.

Following the lone goal of the day by Alfred State, the Mounties would score two goal in the final three minutes of the first half. Doyle would score her second goal of the day, on the second assist of the day by Walls. Then, with one minute left, Walls scored her eighth goal of the season. The teams headed to the locker room with Mount Aloysius leading 6-1.

Schell opened up the scoring in the second half, when she finished off a ball from a Torrenti corner kick. Torrenti was able to score her goal in the 63rd minute via a penalty kick, to the low corner of the goal. The goal gave her four points on the day, tying her for the team-high with Walls.

The finishing touch was put on the game by Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood) in the 86th minute, as she scored the second goal of her freshmen campaign.

The nine goals for the Mounties marked a season-high. It was also the most goals scored since they beat Wilson College, 10-0, on September 20, 2017.

Mount Aloysius plays their regular season finale on Tuesday, when they host Franciscan. While the Mounties have secured a playoff spot, their fate has yet to be determined. After Saturday's results, the Mounties could finish as the third, fourth, or fifth seed in the AMCC Tournament.
