Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Downs Bethany, 2-1

Bethany, WV -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team traveled to Bethany on Tuesday, to take on the Bison. They prevailed 2-1.

After getting down early, 1-0, the Mounties were able to score twice and hold off the Bison down the stretch to seal the victory.

Bethany scored first in the fourth minute, on the first shot of the game. It was only the second goal that Mountie goalkeeper, Lauren Davey (Leonardtown, MD, St. Mary's Ryken), has given up in regulation this season.

Following the Bison goal, Mount Aloysius took control of the game from there. Including the goal by Bethany, the Mounties produced 20 shots compared to five from Bethany. Ten of the Mountie shots ended on goal, compared to just three from the Bison.

Mount Aloysius' first goal came in the 31st minute of the game, when Allyson DeBerry (Elizabethtown, PA, Elizabethtown) launched a shot from well outside the box into the top right corner, for her first career goal. The goal tied the game at 1, and was unassisted.

The teams would play over 20 minutes of the second half, still tied, before a free kick by Mount Aloysius entered the goal area. While trying to clear the ball, a Bethany defender headed it into the Mountie goal, to give Mount Aloysius a 2-1 advantage.

After taking the lead, the Mounties would buckle down defensively and not allow the Bison to attempt a shot in the final 22+ minutes of the game.

Mount Aloysius improved to 7-2-3 overall. They will return to action on Saturday, when they hit the road again, traveling to play AMCC foe, D'Youville.
