Cresson -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team hosted Franciscan on Saturday afternoon, in the first round of the AMCC Tournament. The advanced with a 1-0 victory.
With just over five minutes remaining, JuniorÂ
Brianna Byler (Landisville, PA, Hempfield) came through in the clutch. Byler was able to get an opening through the Baron defense and put a shot into the top left corner of the goal, for the only tally of the game. Only her fourth goal of the season, it couldn't have come at a better time.
Both squads struggled to produce offensively, as there were only 14 shots attempted for the entire game. Five of the six shots on goal were saved by the keepers.
Mount Aloysius tried to get themselves some other scoring opportunities as well, but were limited with four offsides calls.
GoalkeeperÂ
Lauren Davey (Leonardtown, MD, St. Mary's Ryken) got the win in goal for the Mounties, as she stopped both shots that she faced.
It was the second straight game that saw Mount Aloysius beat Franciscan 1-0. On Tuesday, the teams played in the regular season finale, with Mount Aloysius winning 1-0, thanks to aÂ
Summer Schell (Hershey, PA, Hershey) free kick.
The Mounties victory moves them into the semi-final round, where they will travel to Penn State Behrend, on Wednesday. The last matchup between the two ended in a 0-0 tie, back on September 21. Mount Aloysius has yet to beat Penn State Behrend in the series history. Last season, the Mounties lost two 1-0 matches to the Lions, including the AMCC Championship.
