Altoona, PA- After having their first match of the Spring Season canceled due to weather, the Mount Aloysius Women's Tennis team defeated Juniata college 8-1 in what will be their only game of the non-traditional season.
As in the Fall season, the Mounties dominated doubles play, winning all three matches.
Emily Goldyn (Portage, PA/Forest Hills) and
Chloe Love (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg) were able to outlast their opponents in the top pairing, winning 9 sets to 7. The Following two pairings had much easier success, both winning 8-3.
Payton Whysong (Imler, PA/Chestnut Ridge) and
Leah Stoehr (Altoona, PA/Altoona) won at the second pairing and
Maggie Willason (Johnstown, PA/Richland) and
Ayusma Bhattarai (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) won the third pairing.
The Mounties took 5 out of 6 singles matches as well. Goldyn and Stoehr each picked up wins in her final collegiate matches with Goldyn winning at #1 6-1,5-4(retired) and Stoehr at #4 by a score of 7-5 ,6-2. Bhattari outlasted her opponent in the 6th spot in the most contentious match of the day. After winning the first set 6-1, Ayusma lost the second 6-4, but was able to respond in the tie-breaking set winning 10-4.
The Mounties finished their season with a record of 14-3.
