Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius Men's Tennis team responded to their Saturday loss to Penn-State Behrend with a 7-2 victory over Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday Afternoon.
The Mounties got back to their normal performances as they easily won all three doubles matches to start the day.
Matt Blose (Punxsutawney, Pa/Punxsutawney) and
Nick Goldyn (Sidman, Pa/Forest Hills) took care of the top seeding, winning 8-4. The second pairing of
Cole Kazmierczyk ( Johnstown, PA/Richland) and
Dylan Matta (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) blanked their opponents 8-0 and the final pairing of
Gavin Spellmeyer (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) and
Adam Tussey (Pine Grove Mills, PA/State College) won their match 8-5, marking the first career victory for Tussey.
The Mounties were able to take 4 of the 6 singles matches to lock up the victory. Kazmierczyk and Goldyn won their matches at #2 and #3 easily, with Kazmierczyk winning 6-3, 6-0 and Goldyn winning 6-1, 6-0. Matta had a closer match at #4, but was able to come away with a straight set victory, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Devon Mountain (Roaring Spring, PA/Central) picked up his first career win in the match of the day at #6. Mountain took the first set 7-6 (7-4), but lost the second set 3-6. In the tie break, Mountain outlasted his opponent winning 11-9 to pick up the victory.
The Mounties are now 6-2 and 1-1 in AMCC play. They will hit the road when they return to action next weekend. They will first take on AMCC foe Franciscan University on Friday night, and then take on Thiel College on Saturday afternoon.
