Olean, NY - The Mount Aloysius Men's tennis team picked up a big win on Friday night as they shut out Pitt-Bradford 9-0.
The Mounties picked the three doubles points with relative ease. The top pairing of
Matt Blose (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) and
Nick Goldyn (Sidman, PA/Forrest Hills) won 8-4, while the second pairing of
Cole Kazmierczyk (Johnstown, PA/Richland) and
Dylan Matta (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) won 8-2, and the final pairing of
Christopher Godet (Nassau, Bahamas/Queen's College) and
Gavin Spellmeyer (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) got back to winning ways with a 8-3 victory.
The Mounties also dominated their singles matches. Kazmierczyk, Goldyn and Matta all dominated their matches at the 2 through 4 spots. Kazmierczyk and Goldyn each won 6-1,6-0 while Matta flipped the sets, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Adam Tussey (Pine Grove Mills, PA/State College) also put in a strong performance, winning the 6th singles match 6-0, 6-0 to pick up his first collegiate singles victory.
The win moves the Mounties to 8-4 with a 3-2 record in AMCC play and clinched the Mounties a playoff berth. The 9-0 result of the match was equally important as it puts them in the drivers seat in tie-breaking situations. They will play their final regular season match on Saturday against Medaille. Due to the AMCC tie-break regulations, a 5-4 win or better will lock up a 2nd place finish for the Mounties, while a loss will see them finish in 4th.
