Orchard Park, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team clinched the 2nd seed in the AMCC Tournament with a 5-4 win over Medaille College.

In unusual fashion, the Mounties came out of the doubles matches behind, as they were only able to win 1 match. Cole Kazmierczyk (Johnstown, PA/Richland) and Dylan Matta (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) were able to come away with an 8-4 victory in the second pairing for the Mounties lone point.

The Mounties were able to come back in singles play with a strong showing from their top four players. Matt Blose (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) was able to win the #1 pairing 6-2, 6-3 and Kazmierczyk took the #2 pairing 6-1, 6-0. Nick Goldyn (Sidman, Pa/Forest Hills) won a hard fought first set 7-6, before dominating the clinching set 6-0. Matta clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #4. 

The win moves the Mounties to 9-4 on the season. They finish AMCC play with a 4-2 record which puts them in a 3 way tie with Medaille and Penn State Behrend. Their performances over the weekend put the Mounties ahead of both teams in the tie to clinch the 2nd seed in the AMCC Tournament.

The Mounties will face a rematch with #3 Medaille in the first round. The Championships will be held at Westwood Racquet Club on Saturday April 27th, and will take place 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first match, which begins at 3:30. With a win, the Mounties would advance to the Conference Championship to face the winner of top seeded Franciscan and the #4 seed, Penn State Behrend. The Championship match is scheduled for Sunday April 28th, at 1:30 PM.
