WAYNESBURG -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team earned themselves a 1-0 victory at Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon.
In a game that saw Waynesburg win most of the categories in the box score, it saw Mount Aloysius win the battle on the scoreboard. The tightly contested game saw an early goal from the Mounties stand the test of time, and give them the win.
The Mounties registered the only goal of the game in the 7th minute, when SeniorÂ
Katie Mirance (Chesapeake, VA, Great Bridge) sent a cross into the box that was redirected into the goal off of a Yellow Jacket defender. The goal was Mirance's first goal of the season.
In the following 83 minutes, Mount Aloysius attempted only four more shots on goal for the game. Waynesburg put six shots on goal, but all six were stopped by Mountie Goalkeeper
Lauren Davey (Leonardtown, MD, St. Mary's Ryken). Davey registered her first shutout of the season, which was also the team's first.
The win was the third win of the season for Mount Aloysius, improving their record to 3-1-1. Four of their five games this season have been decided by one goal or ended in a tie. They will return to action against Thiel College on Tuesday evening as part of a doubleheader, with the men's team. The women's game will start approximately half an hour after the finish of the men's game.
