CRESSON -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team rode a high-scoring second half to victory on Tuesday night. They were able to score five second half goals, as they beat Thiel, 6-0.
The Mounties were able to open up the scoring early in the fourth minute, asÂ
Johnna Adams (Lancaster, PA, Hempfield) took a cross fromÂ
Kourtney Walls (Salix, PA, Forest Hills) and was able to drive around her defender to get a clean look at the goal. With Adams putting the ball past the keeper, it gave the Mounties an early 1-0 lead.
Mount Aloysius attempted nine other shots in the first half, but were unable to convert any opportunities. Their defense stood strong though, as Thiel did not attempt a shot in the first 45 minutes.
In the 51st minute, Thiel committed a foul, well outside the box. On the ensuing free kick,Â
Summer Schell (Hershey, PA, Hershey) took a shot at the goal and did not miss. Schell's second goal of the season turned out much like her first, slipping in just over the outstretched arm of the defender, giving the Mounties a 2-0 lead.
Mount Aloysius was able to extend their lead to three, when Walls was able to find Adams again, this time from a corner kick, for her second goal of the day. Adams and Walls are currently tied for the team lead in goals scored on the season (3).
Schell was able to join Adams and Walls atop the team list, when she was able to put a header past the goalie for her second goal of the game, and third of the year. The goal by Schell also gave the Mounties a 4-0 lead. They were able to extend the lead to five, whenÂ
Brianna Byler (Landisville, PA, Hempfield) scored her second goal of the season, just over two and half minutes later.
SeniorÂ
Kaeli Smith (Lilly, PA, Penn Cambria) rounded out the scoring for the Mounties when she scored off a cross into the middle by
Nicole Mountford (York, PA, West York). It was Smith's first goal of the season, in only her second game due to injury.
Goalkeeper was able to pick up the win in goal for the Mounties, as she saved both of the shots she faced.
Mount Aloysius will face Penn State Behrend on Saturday to open up AMCC competition. Penn State Behrend is the defending AMCC Champion. The Mounties lost to Penn State Behrend twice last season, by identical 1-0 scores, including in the AMCC Championship Game. The teams will meet in Erie following the Men's game on Saturday.
