Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mounties Earn Second Straight Draw

CRESSON -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team played their second straight game all the way to the end, as they tied Chatham, 1-1.

Chatham put the Mounties on their heels for most of the game, as they were able to outshoot the Mounties, 26-4. Freshman Courtney Vought (Somerset, PA, Somerset) stood strong in goal, as she picked up 14 saves in the game.

Mount Aloysius opened up the scoring in the 17th minute of the game, when Jenna Gardner (Montoursville, PA, Loyalsock) sent a cross into the goal area. Kaeli Smith (Lilly, PA, Penn Cambria) took the pass from Gardner and tapped the ball to the other side of the goal, where Kara Platt (Shanksville, PA, Shanksville-Stonycreek) was able to finish it off, for her first career goal.

In the second half, most of the action came in the Cougars' end of the field. The Mounties were only able to attempt two shots in the second half, one of them ending up on target. Chatham scored their lone goal, in the 55th minute, when Morgan Anderson found Greta Mort, for her first goal of the season.

In the overtime periods, Mount Aloysius was unable to get a shot off. Chatham had a few scoring opportunities that were stopped by Vought, as she had six saves during the final 20 minutes, including five in the second overtime period.

Vought's 14 saves were a career-high. It was also a season-high for a Mountie goalkeeper.

The game was the Mounties' second straight game that ended in a draw. It was their fifth game of the season that went more than regulation.

The Mounties will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Pitt-Bradford. They will play the second game of Saturday's AMCC double-header, at approximately 3:30 PM.
