Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mounties End Weekend with Hard-fought Battle Against Warriors

CRESSON -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team ended a weekend home stand with a hard fought 1-1 draw, against Lycoming.

The Mounties were playing their second game in two days, as were the Warriors. On Saturday, Mount Aloysius beat Geneva 2-1 in overtime, while Lycoming beat Bethany 3-0. Both teams showed signs of life throughout the game, but also had their moments of exhaustion.

Both teams were pretty even in the box score, even more than just the goals scored. Each team attempted five shots on goal, thus giving each goalkeeper four saves for the day. The foul count was 12-11 and the total number of shots were 13-11, both in favor of Lycoming.

While Lycoming dominated most of the first half, with four of their five shots on goal coming in the half, the Mounties found the scoreboard first. In the 30th minute, Freshman Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood) received a pass from fellow Freshman Johnna Adams (Lancaster, PA, Hempfield) and subsequently beat her defender to get a look at the goal. She put it in the back of the net, for her second goal of the season, to put the Mounties up 1-0. The Mounties attempted two more shots on goal in the final fifteen minutes, but didn't score.

In the second half, Mount Aloysius would attempt six shots and put one on goal, but fail to find the back of the net. Lycoming, however, would use their only shot on goal in the second half, to tie the game at 1. Following a yellow card issued to Megan Oyler in the 87th minute, the Warriors would get the ball back and Oyler headed the ball toward the goal, where Elle Sarracco was able to get a great look at the goal. Sarracco didn't miss as she scored her second goal of the season.

In the overtimes, fatigue began to set in for both teams. Mount Aloysius attempted a shot on goal in the second overtime, but that was all for either team.

Following the weekend at home, the Mounties will get back on the road this week. On Wednesday, they travel to nearby Juniata to play a double header with the men. The women will play the second game. The Eagles are 1-2-1 on the season so far.
