Mounties Big Second Half Gets Them Past Panthers

Bradford, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team traveled to Bradford on Saturday afternoon, to take on Pitt-Bradford. Behind a big second half, they were able to win the AMCC matchup, 66-49.

Leaders
- Trent McErlane (Greenville, PA, Greenville) led the Mounties with 16 points on 4-8 shooting from three point range. He also went a perfect, 4-4 from the line.
- Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain, Phelps School) grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds, in addition to 14 points.
- Julian Stover (Washington, DC, Richard Montgomery) dished out a season-high, six assists, to go with seven points.
- Daniel Lynch led the Panthers with a game-high 17 points. Dylan Meyer grabbed a team-high, six rebounds.

How It Happened
- The game started back and forth, as the lead changed hands three times in the first ten minutes. The Mounties took the lead to start. Through the start, the Panthers held a 12-8 lead before a dunk by Palacio.
- Pitt-Bradford followed on a 9-2 run, thanks to three, consecutive, three point baskets. The third, gave them their biggest lead of the half, 21-12.
- Over the final seven minutes of the half, the Mounties began a 17-7 run, giving them a one point lead at the break. Five different Mounties scored during the run, McErlane, Palacio, and Stover were joined by Nate Christian (Accokeek,MD, Surratsville) and Azim Hutson (Orlando, FL, Ocoee). Hutson and Stover scored ten points during the run, each making a three-point shot.
- Beginning the second half, the Mounties went on an 11-4 run to push their lead to eight, capped by a McErlane three-pointer.
- Following a Panther basket, Mount Aloysius scored 11 unanswered points. The final three came via three consecutive free throws by Christian, after he had been fouled shooting a three.
- During the remaining ten minutes, UPB would only get as close at 12 points. The largest Mountie lead was 20, on a free throw by Enoch Quarcoo (Eastbourne, England).

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius took a major advantage from the free throw line, as they gained 16 points over the Panthers. Pitt-Bradford went 5-6, while the Mounties went 21-29 (72.4%).
- The Mounties also shot a higher percentage from the field, as both teams made 19 field goals. The Panthers attempted 53 shots compared to the Mounties 45 attempts.
- To add insult to injury, the Mounties also outrebounded the Panthers, 37-25. The 37 rebounds included ten on the offensive end.

Up Next
- The Mounties improved to 9-9 in AMCC play. They still hold on to the final AMCC Tournament position, one game ahead of Medaille. They also hold the tiebreaker over Medaille.
- Mount Aloysius will host Penn State Altoona on Wednesday night, in their final regular season home game. The Lions are 14-8 overall, with a 10-7 AMCC record.
- The Mounties are still looking to lock up a playoff spot, as Medaille and Franciscan are the final two teams that are not mathematically eliminated.
