Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mounties Falter at Clarion

Clarion, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team played their third contest of the season on Wednesday night, when they took on NCAA Division II opponent, Clarion University. They fell behind early, on their way to a 67-42 defeat.

Leaders
- Izzy Britt (Johnstown, PA, Greater Johnstown) led the Mounties with eight points, in his first game action of the season.
- Junior, Enoch Quarcoo (Eastbourne, England), grabbed a game-high, 13 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.
- Clarion's, Gerald Jarmon, led all scorers with 29 points. He was 7-8 from three point range.

How It Happened
- Clarion opened up with a fast start, scoring the first eight points of the game. While the Mounties responded with four straight points, the Golden Eagles scored the following ten points, leading 18-4, early.
- At the midway point, of the first half, the Eagles lead was still 14. The Mounties went on a 8-2 run, sparked by two three-point field goals by Jevon Griffin (Myrtle Beach, SC, Socastee). The run got the lead back into single-digits, at 24-16.
- Following a bucket by Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain, Phelps School), the score was 26-18 Clarion. Clarion scored nine straight to push the lead to 17, before Quarcoo made a driving layup right before the buzzer, to send the game into halftime, 35-20.
- The Mounties opened up the second half with a three-pointer on the first possession, by Chance Wright (Pittsburgh, PA). That would be the closest they would get during the final period, as the Golden Eagles scored the next eight points, making it 43-23.
- Mount Aloysius got it down to 17, with just over 12 minutes remaining, on a free throw by Quarcoo. An 11-0 run by Clarion over the next five and a half minutes put the game squarely out-of-reach.
- During the final five minutes, Izzy Britt scored all eight of points, on two three pointers and two free throws. The Clarion lead finished at 25 points, 67-42.

Into the Box Score
- Clarion out-shot the Mounties, significantly, as they produced a 45% shooting night, compared to only 25% for Mount Aloysius. The Eagles shot an identical 45% from behind the arc, while the visitors struggled, going 6-28 (21%) for the game.
- Ten of the 11 Mounties, who entered the game, scored. However, none of them reached double-figures. Six of the seven Golden Eagles scored, three of them reaching double-figures. Clarion forward, Mason Mraz, was the only Eagle not to score, but he hauled in ten rebounds.
