Game Recap: Baseball |

Mounties Swept by Mighty Macs

IMMACULATA, Pa. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Baseball team traveled to Immaculata to take on the Mighty Macs, in a non-conference doubleheader. They fell in both games, losing 2-0 in the first game and 3-2, in the second.

Game 1
- After a scoreless top half of the first, the Mounties allowed the only two runs of the game, in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back doubles each drove in a run, for Immaculata, leaving it 2-0, heading to the second.
- Mount Aloysius starter, Dylan Coyle (Canonsburg, PA, Canon-McMillan), allowed a fourth hit in the top of the second inning, to the first batter he faced. Following that hit, he did not allow another baserunner, over the final five innings on the mound, only facing 21 batters for the game, to get 18 outs.
- The Mounties struggled against the Immaculata starting pitcher, who finished with a complete game and registered 11 strikeouts. Only three Mounties reached base, via a hit.

Game 2
- The second game started similarly to the first for Mount Aloysius, as they were held scoreless in the first inning and allowed the Mighty Macs to push across a run. Two Mac singles put a runner at third base, who would score on a sac fly.
- Over the next three frames, the teams combined for only three hits. One of the runners for Immaculata reached first base.
- In the fifth inning, Joshua Brown (Manassas, VA, Osbourn Park) led off with a single and subsequently stole second base. He would move up to third on a ground ball and was squeezed home by Jared Houser (State College, PA, State College) to tie the game at 1.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Immaculata's first two batters singled, then were moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Following a pitching change, the next batter singled to left center driving in both runs, making it 3-1, Immaculata.
- Mount Aloysius put runners on in each of the final three innings, but were only able to push across a marker in the ninth. Ryan Leonard (James Creek, PA, Tussey Mountain) picked up his second hit of the game, leading off the Mountie ninth. After Leonard moved into scoring position, Matthew Brown (Hustontown, PA, Forbes Road) doubled to drive him in, making the game 3-2, with one out left. The final batter flied out to end the game.

Highlights
- Both sides produced solid pitching performances. Each Game 1 starter finished the game, with Coyle completing six innings of work. The two teams combined for only seven runs in 16 innings.
- Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) had a solid day at the plate, having one of the three Mountie hits in Game 1 and going 3-for-4 in Game 2.
- Matthew Brown made his season debut and roped a double, when he pinch hit in the ninth inning of Game 2 for Mount Aloysius
